Both Democrats and Republicans are to Blame for the Last Few Weeks/Years

Everyone just sit down and listen. This isn’t going to be a rant about how we are destroying our teachers or the teachers are bleeding the state poor. It is clear that the events of the past few weeks have shown us that democracy in this once proud nation is broken. It is amazing that a statement by Obama would capture this problem so clearly. “Elections have consequences.” After the 2008 elections the victorious Democrats rammed every little idea they wanted straight through the political process. The Republicans were quite upset and rose up in 2010 and took control. And like monkey see, monkey do, they shoved everything they wanted through the political process. Both side showing no regard to what the other side wanted .

Currently democracy in this nation is no more than two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for dinner. In order for democracy to work it must be more than that. There needs to be listening to all sides. There needs to be compromise. And there needs to be a move by those in office to make a decision on what is best for the country and not what their party tells them to do. George Washington, in his farewell address, warned us about the dangers of a two-party system. We didn’t listen to him at all.

Now, not only are there only two parties, but there are only two sides to every political topic. My side or the other side. The people of this country have become so polarized, so trapped in their own ideals that anyone who doesn’t believe exactly what they believe is a stupid democrat/republican. The middle is considered evil by both sides and the bane of this country. Never could it be that their own party is the problem, the party which would be able to form a utopia if only the stupid republicans/democrats would go to the moon and never bother us again.

Both sides have become annoying and down right stupid when it comes to what the other side is doing. Republicans: We aren’t going to become a communist nation under Obama. The Soviet Union would tell you that everyone would wait in line for days for a loaf of bread. If Obama is making us a communist nation he is failing terribly. Democrats: Scott Walker is not a dictator. The people of Egypt would tell you a dictator would physically shut down all means of telecommunications to stop an uprising. Mickey Mouse is more of a dictator than Walker. Hyperbole only makes you look like an idiot.

One thing that has been true about Americans over the centuries has been that we have always hoped that the days of our children would be better than our own.  Our nation is broke. We need to find away to balance our budget lest we want to see our children be buried under this financial burden.  Our natural resources are running thin. We need to find alternative and cleaner methods for power lest we want our children to deal with rising oceans and gas prices that make the current ones look dirt cheap.

The solution to these problems aren’t easy. One side doesn’t have all of the solutions. Both need to remember that the other side wants to make this place a better world just like you do; they aren’t out to destroy the world but make it better We all have to discuss and work together to make this world better. We have to ask ourselves what is the best answer for this country. Not the answer my party wants. What is truly the best thing for everyone. If we start to do that our problems will start to be solved and that brighter future we all hope for will be realized.
